Greenwich Village, New York City. Greenwich Village runs basically from 14th Street down to Houston and essentially from the Hudson River to the East River. Depending on who you talk to, some will say that Greenwich Village is broken up into 3 neighborhoods being West Village, Central and East. There is a certain degree of ambiguity as to whether the West Village includes the area above 5th Avenue and University Place. Basically I like to keep it old style and just have two neighborhoods Greenwich Village and East Village.
During the day, Greenwich Village's main streets buzz with craft shops, eateries, art galleries, coffee houses and theaters. At night residents flood the bars, jazz clubs, comedy houses and cafes. 19th Century brownstones and small parks define the architectural feel of Greenwich Village.
Greenwich Village has a population of around 72,000 and is visibly a gay community. Real Estate prices in Greenwich, as in SoHo and TriBeCa, are among the highest in Manhattan. West Village doesn't have any public housing, so that takes away many of the associated problems the other, not so safe, communities have.
