Battery Park City, New York City. Battery Park City is located west of the World Trade Center, South of Chambers. BPC is relatively a new neighborhood. It was created in the late 1970's when the original World Trade Center was being built - Battery Park City was planned from the beginning as a residential community for WTC and Wall Street workers. At least 1/3  of the land mass of Battery Park City's boom started in the 90's during the economy boom that was going on at the time. September 11th temporarily altered residential life in the Financial District; however regular activities have resumed with the added benefit of reduced rents to attract people back to the area.

The population of Batter Park City is about 6,000. Almost 100% upper middle class. BPC is quite safe and has removed pretty much all "dangerous" things in the city. There are no housing projects, no empty buildings, no dark alleys, not much of anything, really - just modern residential high-rises.

Being extremely convenient for Wall Streeters, BPC  has all but recovered from the 9/11 disaster. Most (if not all) buildings have been thoroughly cleaned, infrastructure fixed and restaurants reopened. If you like the lifestyle (which, by the way, doesn't feel like Manhattan at all) and the location but are paranoid about the environmental risk from September 11th collapse, make sure you get an air purifier that can catch all bad particles (down to the smallest possible size) that may have been potentially left in the building.

Many junior-level employees (even Wall Streeters) will find Battery Park City to be on the expensive side - you should be prepared to pay well in excess of $2,000 per month for a typical "nothing special" one-bedroom. On the other hand, these "nothing special" apartments are generally large and modern.
