Jersey City, New Jersey.  Jersey City has a population of 554,247 and is situated right across the bay from New York City. This has made it home to a few large financial companies such as Chase Manhattan Bank, Merrill Lynch, and the investment firm Charles Schwab. The richest part of Jersey City is located downtown, this is part due to the influx of commuting professionals and its close proximity to Manhattan, along with its classic urban architecture, including a significant stock of Greek Revival and Italianate brownstones, some of which were constructed in the 18th century.

Jersey City is the second most populous city in the state of New Jersey after Newark. The 14.7 square mile city is bounded on the north by Secaucus, North Bergen, Union City and Hoboken, on the west by the Hackensack River, on the south by Bayonne and on the east by the Hudson River. The area now known as Paulus Hook was one of the first areas settled by the Dutch in the mid 1600's. Jersey City, as we know it today, was formed by the consolidation of Bergen City and Hudson City with Jersey City in 1870 and later joined by the town of Greenville in 1873. Jersey City is home to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Liberty Science Center and Liberty State Park.

Jersey City Heights, which overlooks Hoboken, is on the Palisades and is one of the wonderful views offered by the New Jersey coast line. Central, which is the primary commercial strip of the area, is comprised mostly of post-war two and three family houses, and remains traditionally middle-class. To the east of Central, the Heights become poorer and ethnically diverse. Palisades Avenue is predominately Latino. Both Palisades and Ogden Avenues offer breathtaking views of the New York City skyline.

Jersey City's west side has long been considered undesirable and seedy, but Lincoln Park is not. This area is very ethnically diverse, and is home to many Filipinos, Latinos, Indians, and people of Arabic descent.
